"Ken Cohen QiGong Health and Harmony:
The Five Animal Frolics"

We will learn China's oldest healing exercise (qigong) system: The
Five Animal Frolics based on the movements of the Crane, Bear, Monkey,
Deer and Tiger. Created in the second century by Hua Tuo, one of the
founders of Chinese medicine, the Five Animal Frolics are a gentle and
highly enjoyable way to prevent illness and increase energy. With
regular practice, you develop a deep sense of harmony with nature.
In this retreat, you will learn the complete Crane and Bear Frolics,
(approximately 20 postures and movement patterns). The Crane develops
balance, relaxation and inner stillness; complemented by the Bear for
strength, rootedness, and healing presence. You will also learn the
basic movements of the Monkey, for agility, flexibility, and lightness
of mind and body; the Deer for beauty and grace; and the Tiger to
strengthen the muscles, tendons, and will-power. All five of the
Frolics teach better posture and deeper breathing.
Experiential sessions will be complemented by an in-depth discussion
of the Chinese theory of diet and nutrition, an introduction to qigong
science (how and why it works) and a cross-cultural discussion of
animal symbolism, including parallels with Native American culture. We
will also practice meditations that tune us to the beauty and power of
nature. Open to beginners and all levels.
